Marshall J. St. Sauver, beloved son, grandson, brother, and friend passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023. He was born in Midland on November 7, 2008, to his loving parents, David and Jennifer (Pangborn) St. Sauver. Marshall was raised in Midland and was a 9th grade student at H.H. Dow High School, where he played football.
Online gaming was a passion of Marshall’s, especially role-playing games (RPG). He enjoyed working out with his friends, riding his electric scooter, and playing with the shop dogs at his parents’ family business. He was athletic and tried practically every sport – often just to say he did. Football, casual basketball, and cross country running were among his favorites. His father, Dave, would run right beside him at practices, every step of the way. Karate was a family sport, as well.
Most recently, Marshall enjoyed joining his family on the golf course. He loved the camaraderie and challenge but didn’t much care for the rules. In a recent outing, a family friend asked Marshall if he was open to any tips. “Nope, closed all day,” he replied, deadpan. THAT was Marshall.
He would putt from anywhere on the golf course – the green, the fringe, even the fairway. For his family and friends, putting from anywhere on the golf course will now forever be known as “Pulling a Marshall.” His golf ball of choice was SpongeBob SquarePants, and he would strategically place it on the tee with SpongeBob facing outward, “so he could see where he was going!”
As a little brother, he ranked among the best. Marshall was in many ways a smaller version of his big sibling, Mace. They were told countless times how much they looked and acted alike. Time spent at the family business together was made more fun with Marshall’s silliness, kindness and many hours spent watching “Land Before Time” on VHS together.
Marshall brought his dry sense of humor to the most mundane tasks and chores. He always knew how to lighten the mood – laughter. His family doesn’t have a favorite memory with Marshall. They are all favorite memories. He was kind, helpful and funny. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. And he didn’t do anything he didn’t want to do, but he would do anything for those he loved.
Above all, Marshall was Marshall. We are proud of who he was. The best way to honor his memory is to go out and try new things. Break the rules when necessary. Take on each new day with bravery. Laugh hard and laugh often. Be kind to each other. And hug your babies tight.
Surviving are his parents, David and Jennifer St. Sauver of Midland; his sibling, Mace St. Sauver; grandparents, Ken and Pat Pangborn, Carrie and Bobby Cates, and Jake and Diane Imhoff; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
There will be a gathering time held for family and friends to share memories and pay their respects on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home, 4210 N. Saginaw Rd. Midland, MI 48640. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network or the Children's Grief Center of GLBR.
