Why Plan ahead

Why Should I Plan Ahead?

When a family is faced with the death of a loved one, often the most frequent questioned asked is “what would they want”. We have found that people do not talk about death or their wishes very often or in detail. This can leave their family with feelings of anxiety and being unsure if their decisions are the best after the death has occurred. One way to help alleviate some stress is for one to preplan their own service. Our staff are trained to make the prearrangement process easier and more comfortable, eliminating the need for multiple visits to the funeral home.

The biggest benefit to pre arranging is that it allows a family to know the wishes of their loved one so they can be carried out. Feelings of anxiety and wondering if everything was done correctly can be reduced. Not only can anxiety be reduced, but stress can also be reduced as most information needed is filed at the funeral home. There is no need for family to go looking for the information while also in the difficult first hours and days after the death has occurred. Lastly, if one pre pays their services, this relieves the family of the financial burden they would otherwise face with paying for services. Having all steps in place allows the funeral home to concentrate on the technical details while the family can take the time they need to mourn and heal.

What's Involved

When one makes the decision to pre arrange their services, all they need to do is give the funeral home a call at (989) 839-9966 or email us at wmfh@wilsonmillerfh.com. We will schedule an appointment for them to come in and meet with us in person or gather information to do things online. Once contact has been made, our funeral home will go over the options, gather vital information, and go over pre-payment options if requested. Once all information has been gathered it is kept on file at the funeral home indefinitely. Changes can be made at any time to this information by notifying the funeral home. Should the need to use another funeral home arise, this file is transferable once permission has been granted from the person.

Prepayment

The State of Michigan requires that any monies used for prepayment of services be placed into either an insurance plan or a financial trust plan. The full amount of the services selected can be paid in one payment or divided over multiple payments. Any increase in price of the services at time of death will not exceed the amount in escrow unless the family selects different services or products. Our funeral directors a trained in both fiduciary plans allowing our families to work with us at all times during the pre-arrangement process. At the time of death our funeral home will handle closing the preneed account and receiving of the pre paid funds.
