Roger W. Bacon, age 85, of Sanford, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Meridian Acres in Sanford, surrounded by his family. The son of the late William J. and Marie E. (Fisher) Bacon was born in Saginaw on October 3, 1937, where he was raised and educated.
Roger served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1978 where he travelled the world—from the north to the south poles—and many destinations between. While stationed in San Diego, CA, he met the love of his life, Nancy Jones, to whom he married in La Mesa, CA, on February 6, 1971. Upon retirement from the Navy, they moved to Sanford, MI, where Roger worked 20+ years at Alma products and they raised their two children, Dorinda and Raymond.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, performing his morning constitutional by checking on the neighborhood, and feeding the birds and the squirrels. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Roger was a member of Sanford American Legion Post 443 and Fleet Reserve Wolverine Branch 298.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Jones); daughter, Dorinda (Eric) Dalton; son, Raymond (Molly) Bacon; grandchildren, Gabriella Dalton, Loren, Joseph, Macy, and Bonnie Bacon; and sister, Lynn Hoeppner.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 9, 2023 at Ascension Lutheran Church 8695 Gratiot Rd in Shields with Rev. Julie Bailey presiding.
