Patrick William Hogan, age 85 of Auburn, passed away Tuesday March 30, 2021 at the MidMichigan Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born in Merrill, Michigan on October 5, 1935 to the late William and Helen (Murphy) Hogan. Patrick graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1953 and went to St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN graduating in 1957 with a degree in Geology. After graduation he worked for his father in the family business. In 1959 Pat went to work for Wickes Lumber in Auburn and then went on to work at the Wickes Corporation in Saginaw where he was a store planner for over 20 years. After Wickes he worked for Wolohan Lumber. Pat then became an independent Manufacturing Rep in the grocery industry and officially retired after 19 years of service.
After his family, his first love was ice fishing on the Saginaw Bay and Houghton Lake. He also loved to fish in his boat the Ice Breaker II. Pat owned and manufactured his own ice fishing equipment business “Fishing Specialties” for over 30 years and sold to many local dealers. He was a member of the Saginaw Bay Walleye Association and helped established the walleye population and was a member of St. Gabriel Parish (formerly St. Joseph Church) in Auburn for over 60 years. Pat was a charter member of the Auburn Jaycees and was instrumental in developing the Auburn City Park. Many area children learned to ice skate from his lessons on the rink he helped build. He served on the Bay City Western Booster Club and helped with the fundraising that provided the planning of the existing Warrior Stadium. Pat was an avid Red Wings, Lions and Michigan State Fan.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years the former Wanda Sweebe, of whom he married in September of 1958 at Blessed Sacrament Church; children, Danna (Tony) Lechner of Midland, Michael (Toy) Hogan of Greenville, Deborah (Sean) Kehoe of Traverse City, Maureen (Brian) Duff of Muskegon, William (Amy) Hogan of Saginaw; grandchildren, Ashton, Brett (Heather), Britni (Brandon), Taylor, Aaron, Riley, Hunter, Caera, Murphy, Zoey, Lucy and Josie; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Barb) Hogan; sister in law, Penny Hogan. In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Funeral Liturgy will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Tuesday April 6, 2021 at St. Gabriel Parish in Auburn with Fr. Thomas Sutton officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery. Family will receive guests at the church on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Gabriel Parish or the Toni and Trish House. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home, Midland.
