Michael A. Kowalczyk

Michael Andre Kowalczyk, age 75 of Sanford, passed away Sunday October 9, 2022 at his residence.  The son of the late Adolph and Helen (Grocholski) Kowalczyk, was born in Bay City on September 6, 1947 where was raised.  He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School and was a 1965 graduate of Bay City Central.  Mike served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was employed with the Saginaw News for over 42 years until his retirement in 2012.  Mike was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Sanford and the Sanford American Legion Post 443.  In his free time, Mike enjoyed fishing, boating, tinkering with home projects, but most of all – he enjoyed helping and being with his family; especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years, the former Paula Strzynski of whom he married on August 4, 1973 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Saginaw; sons, Scott (Julianna) Kowalczyk, Kevin (Renee) Kowalczyk; grandchildren, Abigail, Carly, Ryan, Nash, Noah, Liam; great grandson, Miles; Siblings, Julie (Ed) Kucher, Fr. Thomas, Tim, Robert (Mary Lou), John (Carol), Chris (Mary) Kowalczyk; sisters in law, Lynn Strudgeon, Joyce (Vic) Gay; many nieces and nephews; and very special family friend, Marilyn Caszatt.  In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Paul.
