Mary Cecelia Wichert, 82, passed away unexpectedly at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland on January 23, 2023, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Suttons Bay, Michigan, to the late Thomas and Catherine (Stallman) Roubal on February 7, 1940. She graduated from Suttons Bay High School in 1958, attended Ferris State University and earned her bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan. In 1958, she met the love of her life Bill Wichert. Bill and Mary were married on July 13, 1963 in Gills Pier, Michigan. She was a devoted and loving mother to her seven children, and all their friends as well. She served as township supervisor and clerk, and was a township tax assessor.
Mary was a kind and selfless woman always caring for others. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, completing jigsaw puzzles, playing softball, making maple syrup, hunting, fishing, camping and most importantly spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Anita (Rod) Heard, Laurie (Steve) Wezensky, Karen Showalter, Alane (Joe) Hazewinkel, Bill (Julie) Wichert, Connie (Adam) DeLong, Suzanne (Brandon) Creed, and her dearly loved foster son William Woodbury; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; infant brothers Joseph and Henry; brothers Bill, Bob and Lewie; and grandson Tanner Creed.
A funeral mass for Mary will be held on Friday January 27, 2023, 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, in Sanford, Michigan with a luncheon to follow. Mary’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Pine River Cemetery in Blanchard, Michigan at a later date. The family requests that memorial donations be directed to Capuchin Retreat, 62460 Mt.
