Laurence Clifford Huckins

Laurence Clifford Huckins, age 84 of Suttons Bay and formerly of Sanford, passed away March 4, 2023 at home with family by his side. He was born on August 28, 1938 in Edenville Township to the late Harold and Ruth (Arnold) Huckins. After the death of Harold, Larry was raised by his mom and his step dad, Martin “Joe” Hewlett. Larry graduated in 1956 from Midland High. He enlisted in the US Navy and served on a Destroyer Tender as a Boiler Technician, earning the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer. Larry also worked at GM’s Grey Iron Foundry as a Skilled Tradesman. He loved music and would often play the guitar. Larry enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved giving to others.

Surviving is his wife, Renee Huckins; children, Sherry (Norm) Witkop, Bob (Laura) Huckins, David (Angie) Huckins, Larry Huckins, Joseph (Nichole) Raymond and John (Kristine) Raymond; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Laurence was preceded in death by his many siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the Lighthouse Body of Christ. Pastor Dan Youmans will officiate with burial to follow in New Hope Township Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church only from 10 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be offered to an organization of one’s choice.
