LaVerne Evelyn (French) Hitsman

LaVerne E. Hitsman, age 95 of Midland, passed away Sunday evening, January 29, 2023 at Masonic Pathway in Alma. The daughter of the late Herbert and Minnie (Smith) French was born in Beaverton on February 24, 1927 where she was raised and educated. LaVerne loved to work in her garden and grow many types of flowers. She was a member of 4-H and together with her husband, Smoky raised registered horses and dogs for many years and they enjoyed traveling. On March 1, 1946, LaVerne married Lawrence “Smoky” Hitsman and after 51 years of marriage he died on November 30, 1997.

Surviving are her children, Alton (Sue) Hitsman, Bruce (Laurie) Hitsman, Julie (Walter) Wright; grandchildren, Travis (Tracy), Jason (Sally), Luke (Sarah), Alex (Tonya) Hitsman, Rob (Linsay) & Nelson Wright; great grandchildren, Suzie, Triston, Selena, Lilliana, Avery, Maddi, Makala; Brother, Jim (Sharon) French; sister in law, Shirley French; In addition to her parents and husband, LaVerne was preceded in death by her son, Merlin Hitsman; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Hitsman; brothers, Leonard and Clark French; sisters, Vivian Shaffer, Lillian Wyman, Marion Rooker, Maxine Koch.

Funeral and committal services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 2, 2023 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lee Township Cemetery.
