JoAnne M. Watson (Jo), age 89, of Midland, Michigan, passed away Tuesday morning, May 4, 2021, in her home at Riverside Place. JoAnne was born in Midland, on May 16, 1931, to the late Max and Hazel (Turk) Carey. JoAnne graduated from Midland High School, earned a degree from North Eastern Business College, and later earned her real estate license from Lansing Community College. She went on to obtain her Broker’s License and enjoyed selling real estate for over 30 years before retiring at the age of 80. Prior to her career in real estate, JoAnne worked under the assistant principal at Alma Public Schools for 12 years.
Together with her husband, George T. Watson, JoAnne raised 5 beautiful daughters – Cindy (Sam Davidson) of Palmetto, GA, Sherry (Fritz Lehmann) of North Olmstead, OH, Jill (George Collins) of Newtown, CT, Shawn (James Capen) of St. Louis, MI, and Sandra (Jeff Geitman) of Merrill, MI.
JoAnne was an adventurer with a dreamer’s heart. She was raised among horses and reminisced of growing up at her grandparent’s race track. She loved boxer dogs, nature, reading, camping, traveling, and keeping up on local and world news. She also enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and MSU football. While JoAnne had many passions and interests, she loved spending time with her friends and family most.
Throughout her life and career, JoAnne lived in various places in Michigan, including Midland, East Lansing, and Alma. She also spent 12+ years in the Phoenix, Arizona area. After her retirement, JoAnne moved back to Midland, to Riverside Place, where she was neighbors with her lifelong friend, Flo Gofton. There, she enjoyed many activities, served on the tenant counsel, and had many friends. She was also a member of the Midland Historical Society and attended the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving JoAnne, are her children, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and only sibling Robert (Bob) Carey.
A Celebration of Life will be held in JoAnne’s honor, on May 16th, 2021, by invitation only due to the current COVID-19 restrictions.
