Janet Doris Strait

Janet Doris Strait (Ready), age 82, was originally from Michigan, but was residing with family in Merrillville, Indiana until she graduated from this life to heaven on July 8, 2023. She was a loving Mom and Grammie and will be deeply missed.

She was born in Midland, Michigan on January 26, 1941, to Lloyd Ray and Leone Doris (Davis) Strait. She had six siblings.

Janet graduated from Midland High School and attended Baker Junior College.

She worked several different jobs as her health would allow, including cashiering, secretarial, working at a hotel, and security.

Her first concern was for the well-being of her children. After that she enjoyed anything crafty.

She was especially drawn to crocheting and baking. She was known among family, friends, and Church groups for “those” sugar cookies which she so delicately decorated and shared with others along with other goodies.

She enjoyed walking, music, and going to Church. She loved God, family, and country. She loved life and was fun-loving, despite the many unfair challenges that came her way.

Janet is survived by her children Kimberly Jo Ready of Michigan, Kenneth Alan (Wava) Ready of Birch Run, Michigan and (Randy) Lynette Angellia (Ready) Branch of Merrillville, Indiana. She is “Grammie” to David Andrew and Bethany Joy Branch; Jack and Michael (Kimberly). She is also survived by her two sisters Linda Leone Strait and Louise Arlene Strait.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Lyle Ray, Lynn Clement, and Lloyd Monroe Strait; also, her sister Nancy Marie (Strait) Eagle.

Funeral services will be held at Midland Memorial Gardens, 565 N Meridian Rd on Monday, July 17, 2023. The viewing will begin at 11:30 with a service and committal to follow. Pastor Brad Lake will be officiating.
