James William Wolfe was called home on May 16, 2023, just shy of his 89th birthday. He died peacefully, in the arms of his beloved wife, Jean Almeda (Miller) Wolfe, following months of declining health. Jim was born in Masontown, West Virginia, on May 18, 1934, to Ethel Elvira (Wheeler) Wolfe and Russell (Huck) Guy Wolfe. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Betty Wolfe and Helen (Wolfe) Metz; and brothers Ernie and Phillip Wolfe.
Jim joined the Air Force after graduating from Farmington High School, in West Virginia, and served for 22 years, retiring as a Tech Sergeant in 1976. During his service, he was stationed at various locations, including Iceland, Japan, Korea, Germany, Virginia, Montana, and Minot, North Dakota, among many others. It was during his time in the military, while at Eglin AFB in Florida, that he met his wife, Jean. Their blind date led to a 59-year marriage.
Jim is survived by his wife; children Connie J. Wolfe, Kevin James Wolfe, and Gregory Paul Wolfe; daughter-in-law Cheryl (Hockemeyer) Wolfe; grandchildren Abbie Hockemeyer, Jackson Gregory Wolfe, Noelle Wolfe, Samuel Bernard Wolfe, Clara Wolfe, and Isabella Wolfe; and great-grandson Kai James Hockemeyer. Following Jim’s retirement from the military, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Midland, Michigan, for 18 years. Jim was a loyal and loving husband and a caring father, who set an example for his children of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of always doing your best. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Jim’s visitation is planned for May 21, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, at the Floyd Church of God, 1015 West Chippewa River Road, Midland, MI 48640.
