William T. Ovaitt

William T. Ovaitt, age 79 of Midland, died on June 29, 2018 in Mt. Pleasant.

Bill was born in Bay City on June 20, 1939, the son of Donald C. and Hazel M. (Tisdale) Ovaitt. He graduated from Midland High School and attended Michigan State University where he met his wife of 56 years, Joan M. Coakes.

Bill enjoyed a successful 33 year career at The Dow Chemical Company. After retiring he owned and operated several TCBY stores in Michigan. Bill was a member of the Midland Township Fire Department, the Midland Township Police Reserves, and the Midland County Sheriff Department Reserves. Bill was twice elected Exalted Ruler of the Midland Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and served as Treasurer and President of the Southtown Little League. He was well known as an active member of the Poseyville United Methodist Church and for his compassionate service as a funeral assistant with the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.

Bill was predeceased by his wife and parents and is survived by his son, Donald Ovaitt of Beal City; daughter, Deborah Edgecombe of Longmont, Colorado and her partner Finn Murphy; grandchildren, Clayton Edgecombe, Christine (Patrick) Mullan, Danielle (Brian) Brennan, Jacquelyn and her fiancé Thomas Stevenson, Jonathan Ovaitt and his partner Michelle Murray; great grandchildren, Oliver & Teddy Mullan and Elizabeth Ovaitt.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday July 9th at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Lyn Frazier officiating. A lunch will follow at the church. Calling hours will be on Sunday July 8th from 2-6PM at the Wilson MILLER Funeral home. Memorials in Bill's name may be offered to the University of Michigan Pancreatic Fund.
