William D. Carmody

William D. Carmody, age 76 of Midland died Friday, March 11, 2016 at MidMichigan Medical Center.

Bill was born October 10, 1939 to the late Donald and Elsie (Niemi) Carmody in Munising, Michigan (once a Yooper always a Yooper). He completed his undergraduate studies from MTU in 1961 and received his MBA from CMU.

Bill was a man of many interests. He was an avid outdoorsmen. He loved hunting the ever elusive Ruffed Grouse and fishing for the crafty Brook Trout. He spent much of his free time with family and friends at his beloved UP cottage on Round Lake. He was a founding member of CBC (Carmody Bird Camp) where hunting was on par with camaraderie. Bill loved problem solving, safety procedures and engineering. He worked for Dow Chemical for 32 years. He then joined MEL until his official retirement in 2015. He spent 46 years in the field of engineering.

He was a member of Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church, he served on many boards, faith and service were important to him, not just in words but also with actions. He was a wildlife art collector, and donated a substantial collection to MTU in memoriam of his father Donald Carmody. Bill was a consistent blood donor, a 50 gallon club member.

Bill was a dedicated family man. He was devoted to his wife of 53 years Erlene (Wahl) of whom he married in 1963. They had two daughters, Kelly (Bob) Henry, Colleen (Jim) Price and 1 son Donald. 4 granddaughters (Megan, Katelyn, Lauren and Jensen). He coached soccer and t-ball teams, drove and watched countless swim meets, golf matches, track and cross country meets, basketball and volleyball games, dance recitals, choir concerts. He was the cottage host - best boat driver, tube captain, hook wormer and campfire builder. He enjoyed golf, softball and tennis and was still active in golf and tennis leagues.

He is also survived by his brother Dr. Pete (Pat) Carmody; sisters Carol (Gordie) Somsel and Liz (Dan) Laskey; and ten nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, March 14, 2016 from Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Rhonda Myers and Reverend Dr. George Baird officiating. A gathering time for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 4-8 pm at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home and at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Donations in Mr. Carmody's memory may be offered to the Seney Natural History Association, 1606 Refuge Entrance Rd, Seney, MI 49883 or Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church.
