Ward Vernell Spaulding

Ward V. Spaulding, 85, of Midland MI, died Friday, September 11, 2015, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland.

Ward was born on December 1, 1929 in Midland, MI, to the late George H. and M. Hazel (Huey) Spaulding. He married the former Sandra L. Proud on March 7, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2001.

Ward served in the Army during the Korean conflict then he went to work for the Dow Chemical Company where he worked as a welding engineer for 38 years before retiring in 1989. He also worked for his father at the Leonard Gas Station for a short time.

Ward was a longtime member of the Poseyville United Methodist Church. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed hunting and camping and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He and Sandra wintered in Lakeland, FL for many years.

He is survived by his sons Greg (Cathy) Spaulding of Midland, Don (Julie) Spaulding of Norton Shores, and Tim (Patsy) Spaulding of Coleman; daughter Ruth Anne (Floyd) Schultz of Mt. Pleasant; brothers Terry (Betty) Spaulding of Mesa AZ, Ronald Spaulding of Engadine, and Donald (Joann) Spaulding of Sanford; sisters Jean (Otto) Pfeiffer of Shelby Township and Janet Rich of Midland. Ward is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Besides his wife and parents, Ward was predeceased by his brother, Duane and Jim Spaulding; grandson Zachary Spaulding; sisters in law, Betty Spaulding, Caroline Spaulding and brother in law Jim Rich.

Funeral services for Mr. Spaulding will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home, with the Pastor Karen Price of the Poseyville United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
