Walter Mark Shaw, age 92 of Midland, died February 22, 2011 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The son of the late Walter W. and Edna Shaw was born in Rochester, New York. Mark attended the University of Rochester and graduated from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After working in advertising in Pittsburgh, he was employed by the Dow Chemical Company in Midland in purchasing and package design until his retirement in 1970, then was area representative for General Business Services. Mark was a member and past president and treasurer of the Civitan Club; and a member of Centre Lodge 273 of the Free & Accepted Masons, the Elks Club, the Midland Artists Guild, and St. John's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed photography, painting, and baseball. He also enjoyed Elderhostels and traveling to Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Algeria, China, and several European countries.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; daughters, Kathleen (James) Kortge of Fenton, Nancy (Scott) Shaw of Ann Arbor, Eleanor (Lotfi)
Shaw-Belblidia of Gaithersburg, MD; son, James (Marnie Weber) Shaw of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorma Gardner.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 405 N. Saginaw Rd., Midland, MI 48640, on Saturday, April 30, at 2 p.m. A gathering will follow in the church's Williams Hall. Donations may be made to SAM's Pantry at St. John's Episcopal Church, or to the Midland County Council on Aging, 4700 Dublin Ave., Midland, MI 48642.
