Virginia Anne Marine

Virginia Anne Marine, age 82 formerly of Midland, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Five Stars Adult Care Home in Avon Lake, Ohio. The daughter of the late John and Virginia (Finley) Shannahan was born on June 13, 1930 in Springfield, Missouri. Anne was raised and educated in Branson, Missouri, graduating from Branson High School in 1948. She received her BS degree in Education from Bob Jones University and moved to Midland in 1952. On June 6, 1954 she married Gordon Marine in Midland and after 45 years of marriage he predeceased her on July 15, 1999. Anne taught school in the Midland Public Schools for almost thirty years. She was a member of Eagle Ridge Church of God, was very active with the Via de Cristo movement, and the P.E.O. She would visit nursing homes and play the piano for the residents and had a very active card ministry, where she would send many cards, simply to show support and love. Anne always felt that "People just need to know that they're cared about and that God loves them."

Anne is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Mark) Willoughby of Union, New Jersey; brothers, David (Sandy) Shannahan, Phil (Jo) Shannahan; and sister, Sharon (John) Arndt; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Anne was preceded in death by a brother, James Shannahan.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday April 24, 2013 from the Eagle Ridge Church of God with the Reverends Bill Greiner, James Shanks and Julie Wiseman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers family suggest contributions to Eagle Ridge Church of God or Via de Cristo.
