Viola M. (Gillespie) Hiemenz, age 93 of Saginaw, passed away early Sunday morning November 20, 2016 at the James E. Cartwright Care Center in Saginaw. The daughters of the late William J. and Jenny L. (Joslin) Horning was born in Fredrick, Michigan on June 30, 1923 where she was raised and educated. During the war Viola worked at Dow Chemical Company and then went on to own and operate Gillespie Market. She also assisted as a nurse's aide at the former Midland Hospital. Viola enjoyed playing golf, going to the casino and Florida but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. In 1939 Viola married Marion Gillespie. She then married John "Jack" Hiemenz in 1972.
Surviving is her son, Glenn (Carol) Gillespie of Midland; daughter, Janice (Jim) Kubczak of Freeland; step sons, John (Joann) Hiemenz of Bluffton South Carolina, Jim (Susan) Hiemenz of Baton Rouge Louisiana; step daughter, MaryJack (Don) Wheeler of Hilton Head, South Carolina; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, William Horning of Hope; sisters, Florence Taylor of Florida; special friend, Theresa Reid; many nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her husbands, Marion in 1982 and John in 1998; daughters, Carolyn Smith, Virginia Clarey; sisters, Bessie Gibbs, Clarabel Lewis and Mildred Moe.
