Victor "Dennis" Caney

August 18, 1940 — February 9, 2025

Midland

Victor "Dennis" Caney, age 84 of Sanford, passed away February 9, 2025 at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada on August 18, 1940 to Victor T. Caney and Jessie (Barnes) McNab. At the age of 13, Victor and his family moved to Essexville, MI where he graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1958. He became a naturalized American citizen on November 15, 1966. After graduation, Denny worked as a shipping clerk during the day, a baker at night and moonlighted on the weekends as a body/fender man.

During his time at Bay City Junior College (Delta College), Denny met the love of his life, Melody Garner, and they were married March 13, 1961. Soon after, Denny enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably doing electronic navigation equipment repair during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home he was hired in at Dow Corning in Research and Development. Denny then transferred to Dow Chemical in 1967 where he worked various jobs, retiring as an electrician after 30 years of service. He retired a second time after spending 9 years with IBEW Local 692. Denny was a member of Midland First United Methodist Church where he was actively involved with producing the Video Ministries. He was also instrumental in developing the video broadcasting capabilities for both First UMC and First Baptist Church.

Denny taught the National Electric Code at Delta College, Computer Programing at Midland Public Schools, and Amateur Radio at Central Intermediate. He graciously volunteered 19 years with Boy Scouts of America, 3 years with Big Brothers, several years with Midland County Search and Rescue, and on several projects with Habitat for Humanity. Occasionally he would work in the background at Midland's MCTV Network, was a Weather Spotter for 30 years, worked one year around the USA with NOMADS, was on the Jerome Twp. Planning Commission for 10 years. In his free time, Denny enjoyed amateur radio, building hot rods, and computers.

While Denny devoted much of his time to serving others, he still made sure his family was loved and cared for. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Melody Caney; children, Teresa Brink, Barbara Caney, and Margaret (Chad) Warmbier; grandchildren, Brandon Brink, Meagan Brink (Dane Zirwes), Lauren (Andrew) Neil, Kathryn (Joseph) Knoff, and Zane Gray; great grandchildren, Victoria Neil and Evelyn Neil; siblings, Janice VanNostrand, Peggy Majchrzak, Andrew (Judy) McNab, and Judy Judd; along with Melody's family, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his son in-law, David Brink; and brother's in-law, Richard VanNostrand, Tom Judd and Tom Majchrzak.

Denny's life will be celebrated in a service held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 315 W. Larkin St. Midland, MI 48640.
