Valetta Ann (Wyse) Miller

Valetta Ann (Wyse) Miller went to be with the Lord Jesus on Friday, May 10th, 2024 after a lengthy battle with dementia.  During her ninety-one years she lived a life of faithfulness to God and family, personifying what it means to be a Proverbs 31 woman.

Val was born on March 2nd, 1933 to Henry and Lydia Wyse and lived in Archbold, Ohio.  She grew up in a pastoral family during the great depression and was the baby of the family, with seven older brothers and sisters.

Val met Duane Alfred Miller, of Midland, Michigan, and they were married on Easter Sunday, April 1st, 1956.  They had three children; Cindi, Eric, and Jon.  Val was totally devoted to her family, managing the finances, gardening and canning, cooking and cleaning, shopping and making sure the children were ready for church and school on time.

Professionally, Val was an orthodontics lab technician for Drs. Carlson and Clinthorn.  She did not allow her work to interfere with proper raising of the children.  Even in the face of her possible dismissal, she courageously held to her conviction of ending work daily at 3:00 p.m., with summers off, coinciding with school dismissal.

Val was very active in the Midland Mennonite Church, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, singing in a lady's quartet with Doris Yoder, Janet Yoder & Artie Wyse, then later in a trio with Doris Yoder and Barb Slagle, and enjoying ladies sewing circle.  She was devoted to her personal relationship with God by a deep study of the Bible and a consistent prayer life.

For the last twenty years of Duane's life, Val provided him tireless and loving care in the face of very difficult circumstances.  These included Duane's catastrophic tree cutting accident, heart bypass surgery, prostate cancer surgery, and finally a long bout with dementia.

Val Miller was a hero in her service to her God, family, and friends.  She will be dearly missed.

Val is survived by:  daughter Cindi Mowdy, son Eric (Anita) Miller, son Jon (Shelly) Miller, Grandchildren: Ed (Jutta) Kobel, Jessica (Kevin) McKinnon, Stephanie (Wes) Hoyle, Michaela Miller, Sean (Jessica) Miller, and 4 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, 2 sisters: Carol (Lloyd) Neuenschwander, Doris Albrecht, and sisters in law: Connie Miller, Laura Miller, Pat Miller, Carol Miller, and Valeria Wyse, along with many nieces and nephews.

Val was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Duane Miller and his brothers: Delton (Violet), Willis (Edna), Hubert, Glenn, Charles, James, and Lynn, her three brothers: Mahlon, Ora, Ervin, and her two Sisters: Mary Walburn and Alta Short, and son-in-law Gene Mowdy.

A memorial service is being planned for August, detail to follow at a later date.
