Truman G. "Lefty" Gilmet

Truman G. "Lefty" Gilmet, age 86 of Midland, died Monday morning July 22, 2013 at Brittany Manor. The son of the late Edwin and Anna (Hart) Gilmet was born in Manistique, Michigan on April 11, 1927, was raised and educated in Flint. Lefty was employed as a truck driver for Associated Truck Line until his retirement in 1985 after 37 years. He was a former member of St. Cecil Catholic Church in, Clare, Knights of Columbus Council 4090 in Davison where he was a 3rd & 4th Degree Knights and there Color Guard, a member of Our Lady of Grace (St. Agnes Catholic Church) in Sanford were he was a also a member of the St. Agnes Council 8043 Knights of Columbus, and a 4th Degree Knight with Cardinal James Hickey Assembly 297. Lefty was also a member of Belles & Beauxs Square Dancers in Flint, Flushing Road Runners, Script A Model A Club of Bridgeport.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years the former Ethel Friers of whom he married on August 30, 1963 in Vassar; daughters, Peggy (Robert) Jackson of Flint, Patricia (Richard) Carey of Granbury, Texas; step sons, Ralph (Susan) Johnson of Freeland, Eric (Julie) Johnson of Erie, Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister, Ann (Bill) Harding of Harrison; sister in law, Connie Gilmet of Flushing; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Lefty was preceded in death by his first wife the former Imogene Redman in 1970; brothers, Bernard "Joe" Gilmet and Paul Gilmet.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Hospice Advantage, Brittany Manor and Seasons Adult Day Services for the wonderful care given to Lefty.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace (St. Agnes Church) with Fr. Dan Fox OFM, Cap officiating. Family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe offered to St. Agnes Church or the Alzheimer's Association of MidMichigan. Personal messages of condolence to the family may be offered at www.wilson-miller.com.
