Ted J. Smith

Ted J. Smith, age 79 of Roscommon, formerly of Midland, passed away on Saturday September 14, 2024 due to complications from cancer. The son of the late Frances "Frick" and Alta (Faist) Smith was born in Saginaw on June 7, 1945. He graduated from Midland High in the class of 1964 and married his high school sweetheart, the former Paula Wilkins, on June 6, 1964.

Ted was the owner of Frick's Bar, a family business for over 67 years, and a real estate entrepreneur. At the age of 10 his family bought the bar. Ted took up pool and learned that if he won, the customers would keep putting money up to challenge him. Ted was a great athlete and passed his love for sports and teamwork on to his offspring. He was always happy watching his kids, grandkids and their teammates play. He was happier yet rehashing the games. He enjoyed fishing Higgins and the Great Lakes, hustling pool, making friends, telling stories and having FUN.

Surviving family are his wife, Paula Smith; son, Michael (Amy) Smith; daughter, Laura (Scott) Atton; grandchildren, Dr. Danielle (Adam) Lower, Drs. Jaye (Kevin) Liberman, Kegan (Lindsay) Smith, Helena (Jacob) McGraw, Nadia Atton; great grandchildren, Finn & Natalie Lower, Audrey & Theo Liberman, Reagan, Emmett, & Payton Smith. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Mularz, son-in-law Waldemar Zywicki and parents-in-law Leonard and Mary Wilkins.

A Wake will take place on Friday September 20, 2024 from 4 until 7:00 p.m. at Frick's Bar, 4408 North Saginaw Road, Midland.
