Shirley C. Foster

Shirley C. Foster, wife of George Foster, left this world after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Sunday, October 9, 2011 to be with her son, Michael G. Foster and daughter, Jerri L. Slagle. The daughter of the late Stewart and Leona (Gardner) Henson was born on March 18, 1930 in Flint and married George Foster on May 22, 1948. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader. Shirley liked to square dance and especially traveling to obtain souvenir badges from different square dance clubs, like the one received for square dancing on a diving raft at their cottage on Lake Missaukee, until everyone fell in the water. Shirley loved to sew the fancy square dance dresses she wore and the western-style shirts for George. She also enjoyed helping George with Foster Electric.
She leaves behind her husband of 63 years, George of Sanford, and two daughters, Lorri F. Palmer (and husband Arthur) of Sanford, Renee A. Pinnow (and husband Chuck) of Midland; daughter-in-law, Diane Harper Foster (of South Carolina); and son-in-law, Mike Slagle. She will also be missed by her 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and Maggie her Schnauzer. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Jane Glass.

There will be a memorial gathering with the family at Old Oak Trails Club House, 1661 N. Old Oak Trail, Sanford, MI on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the Midland Cemetery next to her son and daughter. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association, 4604 N. Saginaw Rd.
