Sandra J. Simmons

Sandra Simmons, age 85 of Midland, died Sunday, November 3, 2024. Sandra was born in Dayton, Ohio, received her nursing degree from Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, her baccalaureate and master's degrees from Ohio State University, and her doctorate from Michigan State University. She held a number of administrative and educational positions throughout her career including Assistant Director of Education and Training at OSU Hospital, Director of Lifelong Education at MSU College of Nursing for 12 years, and retired after serving 14 years as President of MidMichigan Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice.

Sandra was active in state and local nursing, health and professional organizations and did private management consultations and workshops throughout the United States for 40 years. She authored and co-authored a number of articles for professional journals and a nursing reference book. Sandra was a member of Midland Morning Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, served on a number of local boards and committees, volunteered at Senior Services, Dow Gardens, taught the AARP Driver Safety Course, chaired the Homer Township Planning Commission, and was an Advanced Master Gardener.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. Per her wishes, there will be no visitation or services and burial will be in Dayton, Ohio. Donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of Midland County. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Miller Funeral Home.
