In remembrance of Samuel Charles Ortiz. Samuel was the 6th of 7 children born to George and Paula (Herrera) Ortiz on November 13, 1944.
Samuel will be remembered for his exquisite and intrinsic sense of humor, quirky to his last moment here on earth. Finding his moments to shine here were something that Sam loved dearly and he had a passionate love for people.
If you've crossed paths with Sam, you likely wouldn't forget him, if only for his upbeat personality. He found joy in reading the King James Bible, wearing his cowboy boots, and writing letters to his 4 children.
Sam acquired his Bachelor of Science in education from Michigan State University and was an exceptional teacher for several years. He brought strength and experience to a family for many years and raised 4 wonderful children whose lives bear the unmistakable mark left by Samuel.
He is remembered for many things but what sticks with us is the wry smile he'd wear when he'd say, "You'll miss me when I'm gone!" And we do miss that we won't see that smile again but for in pictures...
He is survived by: siblings Oralia, Alfonso, Benita, and Rey; Children Andrew, Javier, Cristina, and Alisa; one granddaughter, Athena; the mother of his children and dear love for so many years, Mary Ann Oliver; his companion, Laurel Colgrove; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers Trinidad and Alberto; and Phyllis Boettcher who is the mother of his first child, Andrew.
A celebration of life service for Mr. Ortiz will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 until the time of service. Personal messages of condolence may be offered at www.wilson-miller.com
