Samuel Eugene Adler, age 88 of Midland, born in LeMars, Iowa to Samuel and Viola (Meehl) Adler on May 15, 1925 died at Mid Michigan Stratford Village on July 3, 2013. Sam graduated from Marshall High Scholl, Marshall, Minnesota in 1943, with Alfred Schwan of Schwan's Ice Cream. His childhood summers were spent in LeMars with his grandmother and was a playmate of Faye Wells of Blue Bunny Ice Cream. Sam loved ice cream. He joined the army in 1943 and served in World War II in the 44th Division, 324th Infantry, I Company and received an honorable discharge in 1945. Sam received his Bachelors Degree from the School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota and his Masters Degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. In 1951 Sam joined the Dow Chemical Company as a research physicist and retired in 1984. In 1967, Sam married Nancy Maxine Watson in a private ceremony in Forest Hill, Michigan. He was a member of the Midland Blacksmiths Group and was the first contributor to Dahlia Hill while it was in the dream stage.

Sam is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Adler; sister Shirley Howard of Coarsegold CA; brother Gerald (Henny) Adler of Visalia, CA; niece Heidi (Warren) Parker of Hanford, CA; nephew Alan (Elizabeth) Adler of Visalia, CA; cousins, Paula (Dean) Hanno, Shannon (Steve) Renken, Noelle (Troy) Kneip, Kelli (Calvin) Schoenrock, Megan Hanno and many young second cousins all of LeMars, Iowa. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and family.

Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday from 3-7 pm. Funeral services will held from the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa. Sam will be laid to rest in Memorial Cemetery, LeMars, Iowa.
