Ruth V. (Fisher) McCollister, age 90 of Midland, died Thursday morning November 5, 2009 at King's Daughters. The daughter of the late Ralph J. and Zelda H. (Johnston) Fisher was born in Midland on September 2, 1919 where she was raised and educated. On December 27, 1954 Ruth married Floyd W. McCollister. He died on February 3, 2007. Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She served on the Board of Directors for King's Sons and Daughters. Ruth was involved with establishing of Happy Diners and was involved in many other activities within the community. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving is her son, Craig (Julie) McCollister of Midland; daughters, Mary (Jonathan) Alexander of Roseville, Minnesota, Carole (Philip) LaVigne of Burlington, Vermont; grandchildren, Kathryn (Jayson) Alexander, Christopher Alexander, Jennifer Alexander and Paige McCollister; brothers and sister, Arthur J. "Bill" (Bette) Fisher, James O. (Jeri) Fisher all of Midland, Nellie Jean Lanphar of Montana, Ralph J. "Bud" (Mary Ann) Fisher of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ellen Shepherd. The family wishes to thank special caretakers, Nancy and CeCe for the care they gave to their mother and to the staff at King's Daughters.
Funeral and committal services will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2009 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Charles Keyworth will officiate. Interment will be in Midland City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to King's Daughters or Chippewa Nature Center. Personal messages of condolence may be offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com
