Russell Eldon Schlafley, age 98 of Midland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2016. The son of the late Edward and Eva (Saunders) Schlafley was born on November 6, 1917 in Union Township near Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Russell and his wife, Maxine, who predeceased him in 2004, was a devoted husband and father to their four children. Russell worked for the Dow Chemical Company in the power department retiring in 1979. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and was ingenious in the field of fixing and repairing things that needed it. He loved camping during summers and being with family and friends. He enjoyed music and had a passion for ballroom and swing dancing. He was a kind, helpful, and generous person who was always willing to jump in his car and help out anyone who asked for a hand. His hilarious wit always raised everyone's spirits. He was always appreciative and loved his caregivers. He will be missed by allwho loved him, especially his family whom he thought was the greatest.
He is survived by his four children Ken (Pam) Schlafley of Midland; John (Beth) Schlafley of Jennison, MI; Ann (Tracy) Redding of Issaquah, WA; and Brad (Wendy)Schlafley of Monument, CO, 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and wonderful friend and dance partner, Joan Steger. Also, loving brothers and sister, Edward (Eleanor) of Manistee, MI; Dorothy Spencer of Green Valley, AZ; William (Patsy) of Farwell, MI; and Leon (Sharon) of Largo, FL.
Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday January 11, 2016 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd with Rev. Jung Eun Yum of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to First United Methodist Church or Senior Services c/o Midland County Council on Aging. Personal messages of condolence maybe offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com
