Russell E. Jones

Russell E. Jones, age 72 of Midland died at his residence on Tuesday, December 23, 2008.
The son of the late Calvin R. and Floy L. (White) Jones was born on July 19, 1936 in Lee Twp. where he was raised and educated. Russell served with the Navy. After his military service he returned to Midland and married the former Delores Filcek on May 3, 1958 in Fisherville and started his career with the Dow Chemical Co.
Russell retired as a supervisor from Dow in 1992 after 35 years of service. Russell was an avid Gospel and Blue Grass musician and enjoyed playing the harmonica and the dulcimer writing songs.
He was a self taught Dobro guitar player and enjoyed gathering with friends for old fashioned jam sessions. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Russell is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Delores Jones; his children, Mark (Bethany) Jones of Midland, Daniel Jones of Plainfield, IL, Sandi (Kevin) Schumacher of Shepherd, Jacqueline Mapes of Midland; and was predeceased by a son-in-law Stephen Mapes.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lance and Hannah Jones; Chad, Brooke, Jared, Alyssa, Denae and Stephanie Schumacher; Marylou, Jana and Matthew Mapes; great grandchildren Angela Simmons, Jordan and Maya Dryer & Autumn Griffin; his brother, Joseph H. Jones; and his sisters, Harriett Brainerd, Lucille Adkins and Carolyn Sopcak.
He was predeceased by one brother James Jones.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 27, 2008 from Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Langewisch and the Rev. Kurt Weber officiating. Interment will follow Lee Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Memorials may be offered to MidMichigan Home Health Care or Messiah Lutheran Church.
