Ronald C. Lowry

June 17, 1925 — January 22, 2018

Ronald Coon Lowry, age 92 of Midland, passed away Monday January 22, 2018 at Colonial Villa. He was born June 17, 1925, the son of the late Ronald and Hazel (Coon) Lowry, grew up in Midland, graduating from Midland High School in 1943 and Michigan State University with a B. S. degree in 1949. Ron married Barbara Ellen Ridley of Fargo, North Dakota in June of 1946 and together they had six children. Throughout his life, Ron was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. He was one of the very first to achieve the level of Eagle Scout in Midland County. He later served as a Boy Scout Leader.

During World War II, Ron served as a Radar Navagator/Bombadier in the Army Air Corps. He later was employed by and retired from The Dow Chemical Company after 36 years of service in management in Midland and in Rocky Flats, Colorado. As he neared retirement, Ron spent several years as owner of The Melting Pot restaurant. He also served as Midland County Republican Chairman and then as Jerome Township Supervisor. He served twelve years on the Sanford Village Council and as Trustee of Water District No. 1 of Midland County.

Ron was a member of The National Eagle Scout Association, The Air Force Association, The Air Force Navigators Observers Association, the NRA, The Oak Flats Hunting Club and the commemorative Air Force. Ron and Barbara were members of Blessed Sacrament Church in Midland. He delivered Meal-On-Wheels for over a decade.

His wife Barbara of 70 years passed away in 2017. He is survived by daughter Kate (Dave) Habetler, son Bill (Cathy) Lowry, and daughter Barbara Lowry, all of Muskegon, Michigan; son Tom Lowry of Denver, Son Andy Lowry of Midland, and daughter Abby (Brian) Jundt of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. He is also survived by eight amazing grandchildren and nine loving great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Ron's life will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 18, 2018 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with Fr. Joe Griffen officiating. Graveside inurnment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the United States Army and the Midland Area Veterans. Family will receive guests at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Donations can be made in his name to MidMichigan Home Care Hospice and the Boy Scouts of America.
