Robert "Bob" R. Pyle

Robert Ray Pyle (April 10, 1946 - August 30, 2023)

Robert often referred to as Bob, Bobby, Bobba and even Gomer was a one of kind guy. With a heart of gold, he was always helping others in any way he could.

Bob had many jobs in his life, his first job took place in kindergarten. One day on way to school, Bob stopped to ask a neighbor if he needed any help picking up the potatoes that he was digging. Millard told him to stop by on the way home from school and pick them up. He did just that and made himself 50 cents. At Christmas the neighborhood women counted on Bob selling hot pads that he had made on his loom. 2 for 15 cents or five for a quarter. As he got older, he started mowing lawns. His Dad even bought him a new push mower to make things easier. His work ethic couldn't be surpassed. He worked for the farmers, and a grocery store while attending school half days. After graduation he was drafted and eventually ended up in Viet Nam. Just as many other Nam vets, he came home with PTSD, which went undiagnosed for years.

After returning home from Nam, he ran into my daughter Krysti and me at the fair. (We had known each other slightly in school.) We were married the following spring on May 23, 1969. He adopted Krysti and raised her as his own. A few years ago, he told me that he fell in love with the little girl before he fell in love with me.

He worked construction work, did concrete work, and ended up working at McKay Press in the bindery. He retired at age 62 and said now he wanted to "help people". His dad had always told him "If you can't help people, then what's the use?". Even after a severe auto accident, with many resulting surgeries and PTSD he was still helping anyone whenever he could.

He was born in Midland on April 10, 1946 to the late Rosston and Cyreda Pyle. He passed away on August 30, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Ken, his brother Roger and his wife Vivian and his daughter Krysti. Left to mourn him are sister-in-law Sandi, brother Bill and his wife Joan, wife MaryLou Pyle, granddaughters Danielle Fitzgerald (Dan Hartley) and Shedel Poole and great granddaughter Ella who held a very special place in his heart, as well as many nieces, nephews, and greats.

Services will be held at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 6, 2023. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 5th from 4 – 7pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery Hope, MI with Military Honors being provided by the United States Army and the Midland Area Veterans.
