Robert Lee Porterfield

Robert Lee Porterfield, age 77 of Midland, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center. The son of the late James and Harriet (Howard) Porterfield was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on March 28, 1944. He married the former Carol Rutherford on November 16, 1963. They shared 46 years together before her passing in 2010.

Robert loved classic cars, especially GTO's. He would spend his time refurbishing classic cars and bringing them back to their former glory. He was very meticulous about keeping his cars, boats and other things tidy and in good working order. He was a member of the Midland Street Association and loved fishing. Bob and Carol owned their own business reconditioning cars for many years. After retirement, Bob worked for his son at Auto Technicians and spent much of his time at their cabin on 6 mile lake in Antrim County.

Surviving are his children, Robert (Kristy) Porterfield, Brenda Strobel, and Billie Porterfield (Tony Tripp) all of Midland; grandchildren, Katy (Beth), Andy (Jill), Michael (Anna), Doug, Jessica (Terry), Jaylin, and Jennifer; siblings, Nancy (Ed) Czycalla, and Kay (Bill) White.

The family has chosen to have a graveside service to celebrate Robert's life. To remember him, the family asks that you make a memory; take a kid fishing, eat a nutty doughnut, have a KFC pot pie, or walk around Harbor Freight (and don't forget your coupon!). These are things Bob loved and will help keep his memory alive. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.
