Robert G. Gilman

Robert G. Gilman, age 74 of Midland, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side. The son of the late Arthur and Edna (Case) Gilman was born August 21, 1944 in Gladwin. He served his country honorably with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Robert then went on to work for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, hunting, being outdoors and tinkering. He loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving is his wife of nearly 51 years, the former Betty J. Vesterfelt of whom he married September 22, 1967 in Sanford; daughters, Tina (Tom Barker Jr.) Gilman, Kimberly (Greg) Baker, and Nicole Gilman; 13 grandchildren; brothers Vern, James, William, Jonathan Gilman; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheilla Stiles.

Funeral services for Robert will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Youmans of Lighthouse Body of Christ Church will officiate. Burial and military honors will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 - 8 pm and again on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of service.
