Robert R. Freeman, age 68 of Midland died of melanoma cancer at his residence on Friday December 24, 2010. The son of the late Arthur and Hazel (Wasser) Freeman was born in Bay City on August 19, 1942 and was raised and educated in Midland. On February 8, 1964 he married the former Carolyn Cole in Midland. Robert served with the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Robert worked for his father with Freeman Construction and later with Chemical Bank in maintenance for twenty eight years, retiring April 2001. He was an avid softball player and had umpired for the City of Midland for twenty three years. He was a member of the Deer and Aspen Hunt Club and was an avid hunter and sportsman. Robert loved jig saw puzzles and crossword puzzles. He will be remembered by friends and family as "Mr. Fix-It".
Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Michael "Cole" Freeman of Jackson, MI, daughters Bethany (Ed) Hampton and Robyn (Philip) Stuhan both of Lawrenceburg, IN. He is also survived by grandchildren Kayla Hampton and Kyra, Allegra, Jayla Stuhan. Brothers William (Joyce) Freeman of West Branch, Thomas (Kathy) Freeman of Springfield, Oregon and sister Margaret (Sherman) Stewart of Jacksonville, FL also survive. He will also be missed by his father and mother-in-law Ralph and Erma Cole.
Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday January 8, 2011 from Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Reverend Milan Maybee officiaiting.
