Richard L. Tennant, age 92 of Midland, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. The son of the late Richard H. and Edith (Briggs) Tennant was born on June 26, 1918 in Flint. Richard had quit school in the 8th grade to help support his family. He served with the Michigan Civilian Conservation Corps. Richard served with the US Army during WWII where he received 4 Bronze Battle Stars in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and 2 Bronze Battle Stars in the Philippine Liberation. On February 17, 1951 he married the former Joan E. Conn in Flint and she predeceased him July 2, 2009. Mr. Tennant worked for R. E. A. Express from 1943 to 1973 and then managed Shur Guard Storage in Flint, Detroit, and Billings, Montana; moving to Midland in 1986 to be closer to his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Edward) Stevenson of Midland and grandchildren, Daniel Edward (Cathy) Stevenson, Benjamin Richard Stevenson, Andrew Douglas Stevenson; great grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Giovanni, Cassidy, Xavier; beloved traveling companion sister in law, Janet Mozader; sisters, Hazel (Bill) Robbins and Bonnie Graham; many nieces, nephews, friends and others. He was predeceased by brothers, Douglas and Bill; sisters, Pauline, Claudia, Betsy "Dean", Doris and Peggy.
In accordance with his wishes his body was donated to the University of Michigan Medical School and a Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date. Memorials may be offered to the West Midland Family Center for Meals on Wheels. Arrangements are by the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N.
