On April 6, 2026, Richard L. Mizer passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 89.
Dick was born in Elwell, Michigan on June 5, 1936, to the late Bert and Mabel (Hall) Mizer. He graduated from St. Louis High School where he met his sweetheart, Ardis Cooper. On February 12, 1955, they were united in marriage and shared 42 wonderful years together before Ardis’ passing. This union was blessed with five children.
An extremely hard and dedicated worker, Dick spent 37 years with Dow retiring as an Instrumentation Multi Craftsman. He truly enjoyed his job and the colleagues he worked with.
Dick was proud to serve his country with the National Guard, 1460th Unit. He provided critical support during Operation Desert Storm and was a member of the American Legion Post 165 where he enjoyed playing Euchre with fellow members.
When it came to family, Dick led by example. He was a man of faith, never met a stranger, loved his family with his entire heart, a jack of all trades, an ice fisherman, golfer, and a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa.
He is survived by his children Pam (Randy) Schaefer, Craig (Sherry) Mizer, Sue (Jeff) Storey, Kurt Mizer, and Jane (Mark) Waldmann. Dick was a supportive and loving grandpa to Wes (Tina), Luke (Cortney), Jocey (Larry), Sara (Santosh), Nic (Beth), Cody (Hayley), Madalyn (Eric), and Spencer. He is also survived by sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dick always had a treat in his pocket for his grand dogs, and they too held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis (Cooper) Mizer; his second wife, Mary (Sauve) Mizer; and his sister, Shirley (Jerry) Krevinghaus.
During the past year, Dick became close with both the staff and residents of Primrose Retirement Community. His family thanks both residents and staff for bringing love and support into Dick’s life.
A service to honor Dick’s life will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Messiah Church Midland, MI. Pastor Matt Lytikainen will officiate with private burial to be in Homer Township Cemetery.
The Midland Honor Guard will present military honors. The family will receive guests on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to contribute are asked to consider either Optimal Hospice or Bullock Creek Sports Boosters.
