Richard T. Harness, age 95 of Midland, passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Toni and Trish House. The son of the late Thurl and Velma (Gooch) Harness was born in Midland on May 5, 1930. After high school, Richard Served in the United States Army during both the Korean and Vietnam War's. He had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1995 as a cooling/refrigeration specialist.
Richard enjoyed traveling, hunting, playing cards, collecting books & antiques. He often shared special sayings that were hilarious to the younger crowd. As a card player, he won all the time but often stated "I have never done this before, as he chose to "play it alone or play with only one trump in his hand." His partner would often wonder what he was doing, but somehow, he would win the hand! Richard loved many things & was a kind soul. His favorite meal was "David's meatloaf & fried potatoes." In addition, he fondly spoke of traveling to the family cabin on Otsego Lake as a child, and to the Houghton Lake Area to hunt. He was a proud veteran. He also was a lifetime member of the American Legion Berryhill Post in Midland and the Sportsman Club.
Surviving are his children, David T. Harness and Deborah A. Harness; two grandchildren; a special companion, Sue McCaw. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Harness in 1999.
Per the wishes of Richard, cremation has taken place. Graveside committal services with Military Honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday June 16, 2025, at Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Toni & Trish House or Midland's American Legion Berryhill Post. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Miller Funeral Home.
