God received Richard Carl Dumler, 74, to his eternal heavenly home on March 29, 2024.
Born June 13, 1949 in Flint, Michigan to Carl and Olive Church Dumler, Rich graduated high school in 1967 at Kearsley High School in Flint, MI. Those childhood years established his lifelong love of hunting, trapping and marksmanship.
With an Electrical Engineering degree from Michigan Technological University in 1971, he went to work at Illinois Power Co. in Decatur, Illinois. While there he met and married the love of his life Patricia (Patty) Merrill Dumler in June 1973. Their married life in Michigan began as Rich worked for two engineering firms, SSOE and Cunningham Limp in Flint and Birmingham, MI, respectively. While pursuing a Master of Science in Business Administration Degree at Michigan Tech University, he began in 1976 a decades long career at Dow Corning in Midland, MI. This included many years at Hemlock Semiconductor where he served as Quality Manager.
From his father, Rich learned an amazing work ethic that included being attentive to detail in all endeavors. In building two beautiful homes in Midland County, his skill was on display. As a jack-of-all trades, Rich had endless energy for problem solving things familiar and unfamiliar to him. He shared his time and God given talents in woodworking with family and friends. No project was beyond his ability to work through patiently. His carpentry skills were shared in church mission trips and several years as a Trustee at First United Methodist Church in Midland. His love of smoking salmon, jerky, and pork was enjoyed by many friends along with a unique family recipe in German sausage making.
Following early retirement in 2002, Rich pursued his woodworking passion by designing and building arbors and pergolas for a few years before returning to Hemlock Semiconductor as a contract engineer.
Raising two special daughters was the joy of his life. Their accomplishments in life were rewarding in every way to him. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed. Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; daughters Keri (Doug) Coon, Leslie (David) Dombrowski; granddaughters Lauren Coon, Alyssa and Reese Dombrowski; sibling Cheryl (Mike) Terbrack; special sisters-in-law Marilyn Raney, Rosanne Merrill; brother-in-law Duane (Linda) Merrill; and many dear nieces, nephews and special friends.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to all the staff at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland and Palliative Care for the care they provided Rich.
