Richard C. Chase

Richard C. Chase, 81, of Midland died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at his home in Mackinaw City.
The son of the late Edwin and Lorna (Fox) Chase was born July 2, 1928 in Gaylord and was raised and educated in Mackinaw City; graduating from Montague High School. As a young adult, Dick moved to Midland. He served with the U. S. Army then married Grace Wade on March 28, 1953 at the Hemlock United Methodist Church. Dick had worked as an analytical technician for the Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1982, after 35 years of service. After retirement he worked for Boise Cascade and for the past eleven years was a courtesy driver for Garber Chevrolet. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Past Commander and life member of the American Legion Berryhill Post #165 and the 40 & 8 Organization, and a life member of the Midland Elks #1610. Dick was active with the American Legion Honor Color Guard and called Bingo for 25 years at the Legion. He was a foster parent and active with childcare. He was called "Mr. Dick" by the kids and neighbors. He was active with the Cub Scouts and other sports with his children. Dick loved his second home in Mackinaw City and sold tickets for the annual Bridge Walk. He enjoyed taking kids on the ferry rides to Mackinac Island.
Dick's pride and joy was his Harley Davidson motorcycle which had just purchase.

Mr. Chase is survived by his wife of 56 years, Grace; sons, Edwin (Kathi) Chase of Midland, Dean Chase and friend Jonna of Fairfield, Ohio, Daniel Chase and friend Vicky of Midland; grandchildren, Kyle (Angella) Chase, Kelli Chase and Cody Chase.
He was predeceased by his son Greg in 1990.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, August 7, 2009 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home with the Reverend Pam Buccholz of First United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be under the auspices of the Midland Area Veterans and the U.S. Army
Funeral Honors Guard.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the Love Light Tree or the Mackinaw City EMS.
