Raymond L. Stevens

Midland

Raymond L. Stevens, age 95 of Midland, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025at The Brook of Gladwin, surrounded by family. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on April 12, 1929 to the late Ralph and Martha (Church) Stevens.  Ray served his country honorably with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married the love of his life, Norma Hoon, on October 18, 1952, after returning to Midland from the military and they built their home in Lee Township that same year. Neighborhood lore has it that Ray spied Norma, or vice versa depending upon the source, and it was love at first sight. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2024, while living in that same residence where they raised their family.

Ray worked for Thee Dow Chemical Co. for 32 years before retiring, then owning and operating Ray Stevens Home Maintenance. Along with maintenance work, he enjoyed tinkering, coaching ball, hunting, and fishing. He was a long-time member of the Midland Missionary Church, the Sanford American Legion Post 443, and AM VETS.

Surviving is his wife of 72 years, Norma Stevens of Midland; children, Eugene (Roxana) Stevens of Midland, Kevin (Deborah) Stevens of Midland; nephew, Ralph E. Wirtz of Midland; grandchildren, Talaya (Bryan), Kami Jo (Jarrod), Kayla (Adam), Trisha (Jonny), Kyle (Melissa), Kirk (Kaylyn), Fawn, Stephanie (Justin), Joel (Brooke), and Tiffany (Justin); great-grandchildren, Parker, Taylor, Wyatt, Kayson, Ian, Brantley, Reid, Dakota, Keegan, Waiverly, Hurlie, Shea,

Jacob, Sophie, Emily, Christian, Ellie, Lane, Jameson, Mattis, Avery, Boyd, and Landon; siblings, Dale Stevens and Gayla (Roger) Haataja.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sisters, Alma (Earl) Hoon, Lucille (Don) Wirtz, Hilda (Jack) Rippee, Irene (Emery) Miller; and sister-in-law, Mary Stevens.

There will be a funeral service held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Midland Missionary Church, 479 S. 11 Mile Rd. Midland, MI 48640. Pastor David Kissinger will officiate with burial to be in Midland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Midland Missionary Church. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.
