Ray Johnson, age 90 of Sanford, died Monday morning, May 25, 2009 at Nottingham Assisted Living. The son of the late Floyd and Mabel (Parrot) Johnson was born March 1, 1919 in Kingsport, Tennessee. Ray served in the United States Army during World War II serving in Australia, Philippines and New Guinea. In August of 1941, Ray married the former Wilma Hope Douglas. They moved to the Detroit area in 1956 where Ray worked and retired from Detroit Engineering Machine Co. as a welder. Wilma passed away on November 16, 2000 and Ray then moved to Midland in 2001. Surviving are his sons, Ray (Margie) Johnson of Sanford, Clifford (Deborah) Johnson of Warren; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roy and Floyd, Jr.Funeral and committal services will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 28, 2009 from the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Military Honors will be provided by U.S. Army Funeral Honors and Midland Area Veterans. Interment will be in Jerome Township Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and on Thursday morning from 10 am until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to Senior Services Midland County Council on Aging. Personnel messages of support may be offered to the family at www. wilson-miller.com. The family extended a special thank you to the care takers at Nottingham and Hospice for loving care given to Ray.
