Paul Allan Duso

September 8, 1951 — October 20, 2025

Midland

Paul Allan Duso, 74, lost his battle with liver cancer on October 20, 2025.  He was born in Flint, Michigan on September 8, 1951, to Helen (Dutil) and Vernon Duso.  He was the oldest of three children followed by AnnMarie and Mark.  Paul grew up surrounded by his large Catholic family and spent many joyful summers at the family cottage on Lake Huron just north of Bay City.

After graduating high school, Paul attended Northwood University studying journalism with an emphasis on photography.  His love for photography led him to work at Meier Camera Shop before owning his own photography studio.  Paul's career eventually led him to Midland Public Schools where he worked for over 30 years shepherding the school district into the computer age. By the time he left, laptops were used by all. Paul helped countless teachers, staff, and students while also keeping all the computers in working order.  The love of photography was never lost after he left taking pictures for a vocation.  Paul helped many aspiring yearbook photographers and filmed sports events, but his true love was capturing wildlife.

During school summer breaks and then ultimately year- round after retirement, Paul built and remodeled houses. There are many kitchens, bathrooms, and decks in Midland and the surrounding area that are the result of his hands.  He was especially proud of his own house which he constructed in 1992 and lived in until he passed away.  In his spare time, Paul enjoyed working in his beloved workshop, creating custom furniture for family and friends.

Paul was previously married to Rebecca Cox with whom he had two daughters, Heather Rebecca (Brad Johnson) and Gina Brienne.  In 1989 Paul married Katherine (Kagey) Gentry. Together they had two children, Allan Paul (Becki Kennedy) and Emily Joy (John Barrett).

Paul is survived by his wife Kagey, his children Gina, Allan, and Emily, his grandchildren Levi and Liana, and his siblings AnnMarie and Mark.  He is predeceased by his parents and his daughter Heather.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on November 15, 2025 at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow. A Gathering at Wilson Miller Funeral Home will occur the night before from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks if donations might be made to Toni and Trish House, Lincoln Township Fire Department, or the First United Methodist Church of Midland.  The family would also like to thank the wonderful health care workers that crossed Paul's path in his relatively short struggle to hold on to life.
