Norman E. Scheffler, age 71 of Midland, died Sunday November 28, 2010 at Cartwright Hospice in Saginaw. The son of the late Edward and Alberta (Elwell) Scheffler was born in Richmond, Indiana on May 28, 1939 where he was raised and educated. Norman graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. While at Purdue, Norman played in the marching band. He moved to Midland in 1962. Norman had been employed with The Dow Chemical Company as a Chemical Engineer until retiring in 1997 after 36 years of service of which he has several patents in his name. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers. Norman enjoyed traveling the world and in his retirement he taught piano.
Surviving are his wife the former Carole Juntunen whom he married on July 3, 1965; son, David (Helen) Scheffler of Chicago; daughter, Sigrid (Stephen) Messana of Saginaw; grandchildren, Wynne, Joseph, Miles and Kathryn; brother, Frederick (Dixie) Scheffler of Centerville, Ohio.
A celebration of Normans life will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 4, 2010 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Rev. Pamela Buchholz of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of service.
