As God held her in the palm of His hand, Norma Louise Gay, 83, passed from this life on September 9, 2011.
Norma was born on June 9, 1928 in Midland, MI to Robert and Mildred Sirrine, deceased.
She married Ralph Gay on May 20, 1950.
She leaves 4 children, ZoAnn (Rex) Wolfe, Lynchburg, TN, Lorna Gay, Midland, Kurt (Jackie) Gay, Midland, Noreen (Todd) Weaver, Beaverton.
She was a precious "Gram" to 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She also leaves 3 siblings, Edgar (Pat) Sirrine, Charlotte, NC, Janet (Ralph) Close, Swartz Creek, James (Bertie) Sirrine, Lake Eagle, FL.
Norma graduated from Midland High School in 1945 and attended 1 year at Olivet Nazarine College.
She served one year as treasurer while involved in ABWA, named in Who's Who Among American Business Women,
and was involved with the Red Hats Society. She was a fierce but generous competitor at the Scrabble table and demanded full attention to the game.
A co-founder of Gay Excavating, Norma worked faithfully at the family business for over 59 years. Her illness recently forced her to surrender her responsibilities on August 12. She dearly loved and took great pride in her work.
Norma had a special relationship with each of her children, grandchildren and friends for a variety of reasons that were unique to each one. She loved us all unconditionally and praised our special gifts individually. She was an encouragement to us all and truly taught us to live "One Day At Time" with grace and peace through her gentle example.
In her last weeks and months she showed us a gracious letting go as her illness chipped away at her independance.
A very special Thank You to Cindy Tomlinson and the excellent staff at Hospice of Michigan for their kind and compassionate care. Also, much appreciation to her many supportive friends who brought so much joy to her life.
At moms request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. In remembrance, a Memorial Service will be held at the Community Church of the Nazarene, 5700 Jefferson Ave. on Friday, Sept.23, at 4:00pm.
In memory of Norma, please designate contributions to the Gideons, Hospice of Michigan or the charity of your choice.
