Niki (Beulah Ruth) (Foster) Hoyle

December 17, 1921 — February 18, 2022

Niki (Beulah Ruth) Hoyle, of Midland, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Niki was born (12/17/1921) on her grandfather's farm in Porter Township to Alma & Everett Foster. She was the second child of 6 children. When Niki was 9 years old her mother died of polio. All 6 children were sent to live with various relatives. Niki has always had a love for learning. When Niki was 11, she went to work for room and board with various Midland Families so she could continue her education. One of the families, who was very kind to her, was the Philip T. Rich family, founder of Midland Daily News. In her senior year of high school, Niki wanted to continue her education by going to college. Though her counselor discouraged her, Niki applied and won a scholarship to the University of Michigan. She went to U of M for two years before she met her husband, George E. Hoyle. George was in the Navy and they moved to Vallejo, CA. After his service they returned to Midland, MI and later moved to Sanford, MI to live on the lake. While living in Sanford, Niki was a teacher in the local schools, a cub scout leader, and a Sunday School teacher. The family moved back to Midland in 1962 where she went to work at Dow Chemical in TS&D as a librarian. Niki became a widow at 48 years of age and quickly learned how to budget and take care of her home. She left Dow and became an agent for Principal Financial Group.

Niki was a hand quilter, making quilts for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Niki loved being physically active having participated in the walk of Mackinaw Bridge 20+ years; square dancing with her husband and even teaching armchair aerobics to seniors. She was a strong believer in volunteerism, volunteering at the Midland Historical Society, Bradley House, Senior Services, United Methodist Women, Daughters of the Union, CROP Walk and Thanksgiving Food Baskets. She was a strong supporter of human rights and a devout Christian. She loved Midland High School and University of Michigan sports, attending as many games as possible. She was very independent and adventurous. When she was in her 70's she and a friend drove to Alaska to see her Alaska family. Niki loved to garden and often had people stop by to admire her beautiful flowers in her front yard.

Niki is survived by her 5 children; Lani Richerson (Texas); Janis (Douglas) Van Hala; Jeri (Darryl) Smith; George Hoyle; Randy (Jill) Hoyle; grandchildren Tiffany (Bill) Hinds; Steffany (Cameron) Fines; Sonja (Mark Tedrow) Van Hala; Jessica (Matthew) Diamond; Heather (Scott) Short; Melissa (Brian) Wick; Ryan (Laty Cahoon) Smith; Jacqui Hoyle; Zack Hoyle; Randall Hoyle; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister Francis (Leon) Syckle.
