Newton Melvin Beebe, age 90 of Midland, died Monday evening February 17, 2014 at Woodland Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. The son of the late Newton M. and Elsie (Huber) Beebe was born in Midland on February 25, 1923 where he was raised and educated. Melvin had been employed with Beebe Nursery and Landscape for many years. He enjoyed hunting, working in his garden, did carpentry work and raising farm animals. He was a volunteer driver for Senior Services of Midland, Family and Child Services and was a life member of NRA.
Surviving is his wife of 41 years the former Wilberta J. Perry of whom he married on April 1, 1972 in Midland; sons, Ray (Shari) Beebe of Midland, Steve Beebe of Sanford, Bryan Beebe and friend Dena of Midland, Eddie (Lisa) Beebe of Lake, Michigan; daughters, Phyllis (Andy) Vanderbush of Carleton, Tammy Beebe of Midland; 17 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brothers, Clyde (Linda) Beebe of Florida, Verian (Helen) Beebe of Maine; sister, Shirley (Phil) Holzschuh of Florida. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by sons, Michael, Ronald and Bruce Beebe; a grandson, Travis Davidson-Beebe; brothers, William, Richard, Milford "Pete", Judson Beebe; sisters, Bernice Haney, Melissa Skym and Martha Small.
Funeral services for Melvin will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday February 21, 2014 from Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd. with Pastor Mark Beers of Midland Missionary Church officiating. Interment will follow in Homer Township Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be offered to Woodland Hospice, Mt. Pleasant. Personal messages of condolence may be offered to the family at www.wilson-miller.com
