Melvin Lee Fosgard

April 25, 1942 — December 18, 2023

Beaverton

Melvin Lee Fosgard, 81, left us with a smile on his face and a heart full of love and laughter on December 18, 2023. Married to his beloved Charlotte for a remarkable 60 years, Mel brought joy to every moment of their journey together.

For 32 years, Mel fearlessly battled flames as a firefighter in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. Later, he brought his unique charm to the role of a building official in various townships throughout Southeast and Mid-Michigan for over 20 years.

Known for his infectious smile, Mel welcomed everyone he encountered. His ability to make people feel at home and loved was as legendary as his dedication to family. As the father to Kristi Springstube and Steven and Robin Fosgard he created a home filled with love and laughter. Survived by his siblings Patty Sage, Norm Wieske, Sherry Kaczorowski, and Pam Wieske.

Mel's legacy lives on through the generations, as he leaves behind grandchildren Brittany and Cory Sweeney, Tyler Springstube, and Elizabeth Fosgard, as well as his great-granddaughter Keira Sweeney.

Preceded in death by his father Augie Fosgard, mother Violet (Grant) Fosgard, brother and sister-in law Len and Nancy Fosgard, and brother-in-law James "Bubba" Wieske, Mel is surely regaling them with his humor in the great beyond.

With a smile that could light up the darkest room and a heart big enough to embrace his fur baby, Abby, and the entire family of fur grandbabies, Melvin Lee Fosgard will be remembered as not just a loving husband, father, papa, friend, and colleague, but also as the one who could always find a reason to share a laugh. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Laughter will undoubtedly be the best tribute to this remarkable soul.
