Melvin Eugene Cozat, age 87 of Coleman, died on Saturday June 16, 2012 at his home surround by his family. He was born on December 19, 1924 in Alma, Michigan but was raised and resided in Coleman most of his life. He grew up an honest hard working young man on the farm. Melvin went to work for The Dow Chemical Company and then went off to serve in the United States Navy Air Corp during World War II. Upon returning home from the war he went back to work at Dow until retiring in 1981 after 35 years of service.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years the former Bonnie (Koontz) Cozat whom he married on February 23, 1948; daughter, Wanda (Dennis) Lewis; son, Melvin J. (Kathy) Cozat all of Coleman; grandchildren, Corey (Angela) Lewis, Shannon (Jeff) Zietz, Heather (Jesse) Stillwell, Melvin Charles Cozat; great grandchildren, Alexis and Brody Zietz, Makayla Stillwell, Landon Lewis; brother, William (Georgia) Cozat; sisters, Elizabeth Long, Wilma Sysak, Vera (Larry) Marshall; sister in law, Shirley Cozat; many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth (Ruth) Cozat, Gordon "Joe" Cozat.
Funeral services for Melvin will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 20, 2012 from Coleman Wesleyan Church 110 W. Webster St., Coleman. Rev. Earl Marsh will officiate. Interment will follow in Warren Township Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the U.S. Navy and Midland Area Veterans. Family will receive friends at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home 4210 N. Saginaw Rd, Midland on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
