Melvin J. Cozat, age 67 of Coleman, passed away late Sunday evening March 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Melvin E. and Bonnie M. (Koontz) Cozat was born in Midland on June 24, 1950. He was a lifelong Coleman resident where he attended Coleman Schools. Mel served in the United States National Guard. He drove gravel train semi for many years and retired from Coleman schools where he had been a school bus driver for 20 years. He enjoyed walking in his woods, working in his shop, riding on his John Deere Gator, and spending time with his family. Mel will be remembered most for his love of farming. It was his true pride and passion and one he took great enjoyment from throughout his life.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, the former Kathleen Reith, whom he married August 20, 1977 in Midland; their three children: Daughters: Shannon (Jeff) Zietz, Heather (Jesse) Stillwell, Son: Melvin C. Cozat, all of Coleman; grandchildren: Alexis and Brody Zietz, and Makayla Stillwell. Mel is also survived by his sister, Wanda (Dennis) Lewis, nephew Corey (Angela) Lewis and great-nephew and great-niece Landon and Lexie Lewis.
Per Mel's wishes, graveside services only will take place Friday March 9, 2018 at 1pm at Warren Township Cemetery in Coleman. Reverend Elizabeth Long will officiate. Family and friends are invited to come celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in Mel's name to the organization of your choice.
