Melba Jean Hopkins, age 90 of Midland, passed away on July 28, 2024 at MyMichigan Health in Midland. She was born August 16, 1933 in Midland to the late Loren and Lydia (Strevel) Hackett. On March 8, 1952, Melba was united in marriage to Peter Hopkins. They spent 55 years together before his death in 2007. Melba loved dogs, especially her grand dog, Jenny, who she would watch from time to time. She enjoyed doing needle point, was a Notary Public for many years, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Alva (Paula) Hopkins, David (Cindi) Hopkins and Patti (Mike) Furman; and sister, Barbara Diener. She was also a beloved grandma to 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Melba was preceded in death by her siblings, Loren "Bob" Hackett, Charles Hackett, Don Hackett, Agnes Thompson, Ruth Stoneburner, and Betty Hackett.
One of the most important roles in Melba's life, other than being a mother and wife, was being a nanny for the Dinh family for many years. This includes their children of whom she loved very much; Paul, Kim, and Chris. Melba's family wishes to thank the Dinh's for their kindness and love shown to her. The family also wishes to thank the 5600 unit at MyMichigan Health and Family Practice for the care given.
There will be a graveside service held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Poseyville Cemetery which is located on S. Poseyville Rd. south of Yoder Dr. Memorial contributions may be offered to the Humane Society of Midland County. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home.
