Maxine V. Walter

Maxine V. Walter, age 89 of Midland, died Wednesday evening January 6, 2010 at MidMichigan Medical Center. The daughter of the late Bert and Mattie (Musser) Gilbert was born in Forest Hill, Michigan on January 9, 1920. The family then moved to Alma where she graduated from Alma High School in 1937. Maxine then graduated from Laura Bailer School of Cosmetology. On January 15, 1939 in Alma Maxine married Leon Walter. That same year they moved to Midland. Leon died on March 6, 1989. She was a member of Eagle Ridge Church of God where she served as greeter and teller for over thirty five years. Maxine was active in the Senior Adult Ministries and especially enjoyed the Salt and Lite Adult Group. She enjoyed eating with friends at Happy Diners where she served on the Advisory Board for many years. Maxine worked on the election board for the City of Midland for nearly fifty years mainly at Eastlawn Elementary School. Her hobby was crocheting and she went to the Senior Arts and Craft Sales at the Midland Mall and the Little White Schoolhouse at the Midland Fairgrounds. Maxine was often referred to as the Afghan Lady.

Surviving are her children, Connie (James) Miller of Mt. Morris, Gary (Carolyn) Walter of Sanford, Dr. Randall (Margaret) Walter of Northville, Beth (Ronald) Sears of Texas; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by 3 sisters and a granddaughter.

Funeral and committal services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Eagle Ridge Church of God. Rev. Bill Greiner and Rev. James Shanks will officiate. Interment will be in Midland Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may visit at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
